Pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus zosterae) are among the smallest seahorse species, typically measuring about 2.5 to 3 cm in length. They have a distinctive rounded body and a long, curled tail, often found wrapped around seagrasses or gorgonian corals. Their coloration can vary, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings.
To create a suitable environment for pygmy seahorses, it’s crucial to set up a tank that prevents them from getting caught in filter intakes. Marine aquariums with plenty of branches, grass blades, and algae growth are ideal, as these seahorses enjoy holding on with their tails to branch-like structures.
Their diet primarily consists of small live foods such as brine shrimp and other tiny planktonic organisms. With proper feeding and care, pygmy seahorses can thrive in a variety of marine aquariums, making them a delightful addition to any setup.
Typically, 2.5-3cm in length.
