Blue Hypnea (Hypnea pannosa), is a species of marine red algae from the Indo-Pacific region that is known for its striking blue coloration.

This algae typically grows in clumps on coarse substrates or around rocky areas, exhibiting a high growth rate under optimal conditions and lighting, which are usually present during the summer months. Its growth reduces dramatically, and it may even lose mass during the winter months. The algae can spread into a carpet-like formation, adding vibrant color and life to an aquarium.

Although it only displays its blue hues under natural light, appearing slightly green or brown under blue aquarium lighting, its characteristic structure and coloration make it an attractive macroalgae for any aquarium and a great addition to any refugium.
