Spanish Hogfish

$39.00

The Spanish hogfish (Bodianus rufus), a species of wrasse found in our Caribbean reefs, is known for its striking yellow and blue hues. It is a non-aggressive fish that can coexist peacefully with many other aquarium inhabitants. As they age and grow larger, some individuals may display more reddish than bluish tones. Due to their tendency to jump, a covered tank is recommended to prevent these spirited fish from leaping onto the dry floor.

The Spanish hogfish is a swift swimmer and, when approached by divers, it quickly darts away. Rather than hiding in the nearest crevice, it prefers to linger near a potential hideout and watch.

During its juvenile phase, the fish serves as a cleaner fish.

Its striking blue and vibrant yellow hues are easily noticeable against the ocean floor backdrop. As it matures, the yellow fades and the blue transitions to shades of purple and burgundy.

This species is a common sight in our reefs, as well as throughout the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Their size typically ranges from 2 to 8 inches.

Available in 3 sizes. Small (2-3"), Medium (3-5") and Large (5-8")
